Papers of James A. Bear, 1783-1966.

The collection consists of material collected for The Family Letters of Thomas Jefferson by Bear and Edwin Morris Betts, including their notes, drafts of letters, illustrations, and galley proofs. There is also material concerning Thomas Staples Martin including letters, copies of letters, and notes assembled by Bear in preparing his University of Virginia Masters thesis; Thomas Staples Martin: a study in Virginia politics, 1883-1896. There is also material from Bear's library science course work at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts.
